Tips for raising money for your school with containers
Looking for a great way to raise money for your school while also helping the environment?
Little people can make big change, with one primary school in Queensland collecting over 1 million containers and receiving a cool $100,000!
With schools using their container refunds for everything from sports equipment to veggie patches we’ve got some great tips for turning a little lunch into big cash for your school community.
It's a no brainer - don't waste your containers
Place a separate bin next to your rubbish and recycling bins to make sure students have a place to put their containers.

Drop off your kids, drop off your containers
Lots of schools have chosen to have a collection bin right next to the drop off and pick up area, with a P&C member on hand to collect containers.
Your school can also get in touch with your local Containers for Change operator to request free collection bags.
TIP: Keep a bag in the car to stash your empties while you’re on the go.
Set a target and track your goals
Using your school’s member number you can track the change you’re making in your Containers for Change member account.
If your school is saving up for something in particular, set a collection goal and our calculator will tell you how many containers you need to reach your goal.
You may like to set up a visual collection goal reminder as well, just like Greenslopes State School have done.
Greenslopes State School
Greenslopes State School in Brisbane came up with a great idea for tracking their container collections with a progress board at the front of the school. Colouring in their progress as they went, the school collected 40,000 containers in 2021 and set a goal of 45,000 containers for 2022 – which they achieved! It’s a great reminder for everyone visiting the school to put their containers in the right place. We look forward to checking in with Greenslopes State School at the end of 2023 to see if they can hit their 2023 target of 50,000 containers!
Collecting containers isn’t just for primary schools too, with high schools across Queensland also organising their communities to fundraise using Containers for Change.
